It’s oh so quiet...

#1 Post by Smudge75 » Tue Mar 03, 2020 5:20 pm

Hi,

Just wondered if there were any other over 40s hanging around. Maybe reading but not posting as this section of the forum is very quiet :)

I’m new to the forum and CARE so here is my back story/history...

I met my hubby at 37, we started trying for a family and got married when I was 39. You always assume these things would just happen given the lengths you go to to prevent it (in my case for 24 years) but as you all know from being here it doesn’t.

We were eventually referred to the local hospital for tests and were told we’d never get pregnant naturally but they would refer us for IVF. Further tests revealed my FSH was too high so IVF through the NHS was now a big no no. A week later I discovered I was pregnant. We couldn’t quite believe it, sadly that joy turned to sadness when at 10 weeks I started to bleed and miscarried.

We decided to consult with a fertility clinic and taking into account the consultants recommendations, we signed up for three rounds of self funded natural cycle IVF. While waiting for my period to start to commence our first round I discovered I was pregnant but this ended in a chemical pregnancy.

All three natural cycles were cancelled before egg collection due to early ovulation or hormones not developing as they should. End of the road for us by this point, and recommended to find my Plan B (my own doctors actual words were “stop this silliness, you need a Plan B!”).

I fell pregnant again but miscarried at 7 weeks.

Four months later I fell pregnant for a fourth time but this also ended in miscarriage.

I was referred to the hospital for reoccurring miscarriages, all tests came back normal save for an under active thyroid. I was given drugs and told to take them as soon as I’m pregnant, that was over a year ago and nothing else has happened naturally.

We are now beginning our journey with CARE which is filled with renewed hope. We’re on the donor waiting list and are really excited to get going but are also well aware nothing is guaranteed.

What’s your story and where are you at in your journey? XX

Hello Smudge

Just thought I would say hi, I haven't checked on the forums for a while. I turned 40 last November, am single and decided last summer that i didn't want to miss out being a mum so got in touch with Care Nottingham and started my IVF journey back in May. I bought a 2 cycle package from Access Fertility but was really lucky and was successful with my first cycle in October. I am 21 weeks pregnant and due in July. Care Nottingham were amazing throughout! I used donor sperm and had ICSI.

It sounds like you have had a long, difficult journey, I hope Care will bring you some fresh hope towards achieving your dreams.

Donnie

Hi Donnie,

Thats wonderful news, many congratulations to you. My sisters best friend went it alone and has beautiful two year old twins, they’re adorable!

Donors have hearts of gold don’t you think. If I’d have known what I know now I’d have probably put my eggs on ice when I was younger or given someone else a chance at motherhood.

We’ve been denied AccessFertility unfortunately due to my reoccurring miscarriages (and unicorn uterus - didn’t even know that was a thing but maybe explains my love of sparkle :D !) so everything crossed it works first time.

Good luck with everything, look forward to hearing of your bundles safe arrival x

Hey smudge, just thought I’d say hello!

I met my partner at 40 and was trying for a couple of years before deciding on ivf, 3 round of ivf with my own eggs all failed so switched to donor eggs. We waited around 3 months before we were matched and I’m currently in the 2ww with a 5 day blastocyst on board and 3 in the freezer. I’m feeling a lot more positive about this but this 2 week wait is a killer! I wish you lots of luck! How long have you been on the waiting list? Dee

Hi Dee,

That’s amazing that you’ve been matched and are in the 2ww. I have everything crossed for you :)

How are you feeling? How are you finding the meds?

Are you working through to pass the time or have you been signed off?

When are you due to test?

We’ve only been on the list a month, was told it would be 3-4 month wait.

Sorry for all the questions x

Hi all
I’m tiredmum3 well actually 4 now.
Bit of my history, I’m 43 and married. Had first 3 children naturally in my 20’s with a previous partner. Met my husband in 2004 and started trying for a child together after we were married in 2007. We stayed with care on and off until 2016 with no success with own egg cycles and then a donor cycle.
We then moved to another clinic as care at that time did not offer access fertility and used their donor refund programme. We started with them in feb 16 I think and had been matched and embryo by June of that year .
I had issues with my lining so the four blasts we ended up with were frozen and I had my first frozen transfer in August that year which ended in a bfn. I knew it wasn’t to be as something didn’t feel right. I then had second transfer in December 16 and had 2 blasts transferred which both took but sadly we lost the smaller twin at 7 weeks but had our lovely son in August 17. I had just had my last blast transferred and am currently 8 weeks pregnant after insisting I did the exact cycle as before even though I was told it was quite outdated 😀
Quite a few mistakes were made with my drugs but fingers crossed we have a lovely baby at the end of it .
Good luck everyone and hope to chat more x

Hi im having my review meeting on the 13th. I thought that was quick. One day I feel positive, next worried as hell. I gone back into my Ivf mode of healthy eating, walking loads and doing what I read in the Zita West books that I got after I had my first BFN. My gods that was a kick in the gut as I have 2 alot older boys that I had no problems having. BUT had my tubes clipped 2009 and BINGO my body went pre menopausal and not been right since. Im back on the Brazil nuts and pom juice and vit tablets again. I just hope my 3 embryos be ok. My little girl was a fet. As when our donor had there EC my mum sadly passed away so we had to freeze any we got which was 5.. Sadly 1 got my BFN but I think that was due to stress etc. Second was my little girl. That 1 embryo split into 3 so at one point having triplets but sadly the others just did not go anywhere. Xxx

You seem to be in the right mind frame so that’s good Teddy. The up and down feelings are completely normal. See what the consultant says but I’m sure everything will be fine.

I’ve been eating healthier since our consultation last November and upping my walking ... though have to admit it’s taken a bit of a bad turn since lockdown began. Not put any weight back on though so not all bad.

Sorry to hear about your mum, that must have been really tough. X

Hi, I am 40 and on my first cycle of IVF (or ICSI if they decide that’s the right thing on the day), my EC is tomorrow. Everything seems to be going ok so far.
It’s difficult to keep the right frame of mind isn’t it? Positive but realistic. It’s great to hear everyone’s stories. I have been pregnant once before but sadly was an early miscarriage. I was then diagnosed with an under active thyroid but even with that treated we haven’t been able to get pregnant again.
Lovely to meet you all.

Hi Sharney, GOOD LUCK for EC tomorrow. It difficult to keep postive like you said but I found working on my fitness and making sure my body positive keeps my mind focused and open to ANYTHING. Mind you hun I have wobbles and the what ifs that slip back into my mind. Sometimes it takes just reading on here or just talking to my partner helps. I also found being in my 40s I took more knocks, as I get said to me many a time... WELL YOU ARE OVER 40. Honestly hearing that gives me the right mood and stronger then ever. Last month I had a call from a doctor and she kindly remind me. Anyway GOOD LUCK stay strong as you have been xxx
