7 week scan query

Hey all

We measured 7 weeks 2 days and CRL was just under 11mm.

Mega chuffed!

Something I do not understand - I know this is a gestational age and measured based on a pretend LMP (if you like) BUT, out of curiosity and pedanticness on my part, has the sonographer done anything to the ultrasound sonograph machine to add that calculation of an extra 2 weeks in OR has it automatically detected my little nugget as 7 weeks 2 days old?

I was thinking that I was 2 weeks ahead or it was measuring conception age or something - is this normal for an ultrasound scan to magically know I am 2 weeks head further than I thought?

Congrats on the scan! Did you see the heartbeat? Think I answered a similar question you had on the general forum but no they won’t be doing anything to add 2wks on they check your measurements and based on gestational age ie 7+2 a 7week old embryo should have a CRL around 11mm which as you know is actually only 5wks in theory. You aren’t 2wks ahead its how all pregnancies are measured natural or ivf, when you get pregnant naturally during weeks1-2 you aren’t actually pregnant as such but thats counted as the first two weeks so no difference for us ivf’ers a natural conception at 7wks should have the same CRL measurement but will still only actually be 5weeks of being an embyro hope that makes sense. Whens your 12wk scan or have you not had a booking appointment yet? Good luck.

ah you did - heartbeat present and correct. Buzzing beyond belief!

thank you - you did but I just had more of an indepth question around it. I am curious at how the machine monitor comes up with the readings once it has measured CRL. When it reveals the gestational age, i wasn't sure if it did that by default or just conception age and then adds 2 weeks.

Haha maybe they input your LMP or transfer date or something haha who cares lol so long as you baby is all good thats fab news maybe ask the person who does the scan at the next one how it works lol thats all i can suggest ‍♀️ Never really gave it a thought as I had already worked out how far along I was etc lol.
