Matching Panel

Three years and four months since I made a first tentative telephone call about adoption, today we finally went to matching panel.

It has been a test of endurance without a doubt; on the way having to contend with a diagnosis of breast cancer within a week of getting married to my second husband. The medical roller coaster I found myself on was compounded by the emotional roller coaster I was on simultaniously - still grieving a year after losing our precious ivf baby and my mum within a week, I was at one of my lowest of the low points in my life, fearing for my life and having no control over my lovely DH and my plans to have 'our own' children.

God/fate, call it what you like, however, was kind to me because in the sphere of breast cancer, I was blessed with a grade 1, stage 2 tumour which was removed and followed up with six weeks of radiotherapy. Needless to say, this held up our application to adopt. Our journey further saddened by the death of my oldest brother, also from cancer - but I am a fighter and I (we) came back from it and were approved in March 09 to adopt two children under 8.

I 'found' our children L, a little boy of 7 and K, his 4 year old sister on the British Adoption and Fostering website and enquired about them on 5 April this year - six months later to the day , we found out today that WE HAVE BEEN APPROVED TO ADOPT THEM.

I want to take this opportunity to thank you, my friends for helping me through my 'difficult' times, you have been, still are and always will be special people.

Let the celebrations begin!!!!

With Much Love

I am typing this with tears in my eyes. You are such a strong person and have endured so much and yet never given up.
God has chosen these children for you and you have had to suffer along the way to reach this goal.
I know we are all proud of you for your perseverance and you have been rewarded for it.

After the wait we had I now know that God chose Little Miss for our family just like L & K have been found for your
Family.

I am truly blessed to know someone like you Vonny and I am so happy for you both, it is so amazing.

Can't wait to hear all about introductions :-)

Vonny I will repeat what I said in text.......What lucky children they are to have found such a strong and loving Mummy and Daddy. Through adoption I know their chances of being adopted were much slimmer than say some children so they truly were blessed each and every day that you and DH decided to face another day on the road to adoption.

Had you not 'hung in there' they may have lived a life in a care system that does its best but often doesn't get it quite right. Now they are going to be nurtured and loved and will learn what it means to feel secure.

Its a true match.....strong and brave children have found their way home to one of the bravest Mummy's I have ever met.

I cannot wait to meet them and little D would be dancing for joy if he understood.

CONGRATULATIONS on your new family

Vonny, I don't think we've really 'spoken' before, but after reading your post on rallygirl's thread about christmas lists I had to pop by and say what fabulous news it is that you've got your children at last. having read everything you've gone through, I'm surprised you didn't give up along the way, but this is just a credit to you. I know that you will have the best christmas ever and I'm sure that those 2 extra people to buy for will mean LOTS of presents! lol.

I've followed bits and pieces of your story as you've posted on various threads, so couldn't be more delighted for you.

Congratulations on your new family.

Vonny, l've also just popped over from Jo's thread to say WELL DONE and CONGRATULATIONS. I cannot believe what you've been through recently but glad that is all behind you and you can now be the family you always wanted to be.

My health visitor came to see me before Leo was born and she said 'Good luck it's a whole new world opening up for you and it's wonderful' so l wanted to pass that on because it really is, we're all very lucky.

You might want to come and join city chics christmas thread on BB&B as you start Christmas shopping for those lucky little children.

Hi Vonny,
I don't usually post here but I often read this thread and been reading about your adoption journey.
I'm so very happy for you and your DH that you've been approved to adopt these 2 children. How very lucky they are to get such loving and caring parents like you.
I bet you're on cloud nine right now. I hope intro's can begin soon and that all will go smoothly from here on. I'll be keeping an eye on your posts.
Love,
Possum xx

Well done Vonny - you are now one of the success stories that lifts people's hearts when they are down, and gives hope no matter how hard (and unfair!) things sometimes seem.

Enjoy! :D

Thanks for your good wishes, just to update you, we finally get to meet L&K on 1 Nov. In the meantime, busy, busy, busy preparing their rooms etc. I finished work on Friday (for a whole year - yippeeeeeee!!!) so have plenty of time now to get cracking. Not sure how introductions will unfold but planning meeting being held on Mon 25, plus lunch with foster carers. Tues 26 will be difficult as we are meeting with birth parents but not as difficult as this Fri as L&K meeting them to say their goodbye's - that is a difficult one for me as I can 'feel' the pain on all sides, just thinking about it.

We have to go and live in their area for the duration of introductions as they live some considerable distance from where we live, yet at the same time my DS needs to be at school, so looks like we will be doing plenty of driving back and forth and DS will be staying with my sister on and off while DH & me are up there. It is going to be yet another test of endurance for us BUT the end result will be SO worthwhile.

I went to a garden centre yesterday with DH and the Christmas display had just opened - SO EXCITED!!!
