Chemical Pregnancies + when to restart?

Hello all,

A little confused, but sadly, I experienced a chemical pregnancy last week and effectively still on a period now.

Am told I can restart IVF treatment on this very cycle on day 21.

Question is this - am I on a period or am I still simply going through a drawn-out chemical miscarriage? What is the difference? Some sources say periods shouldn't start for up-to 8 weeks after?

Due to discuss this soon with the clinic but wanted your experiences with this. Does this first day I bled, count as day 1 of my cycle when the apparant chemical miscarriage happened?

Thanks all

Hi ivy

Sorry to hear your treatment ended in a chemical.

I did my natural IVF the same month as my chemical, Cycle Day 1 is the first day of your period (or chemical) i'm afraid and will be heavier than usual (and possibly more painful). Your egg fertilised just didn't fully stick unfortunately, i'm so sorry you're going through this.

We pin all our hopes and dreams on that positive test and then are dealt blows like this.

There is further information here which you may find helpful:-

Be kind to yourself and only proceed if you feel like you're ready xx

Thanks Smudge

Moving on quicker than I thought.

So to clarify, with a chemical pregnancy outcome, is a period? The bleed I experienced was day 1 of a menstrual cycle?

Thanks for your kind words.

Best wishes

Sorry to hear this news I had a CP end of July. I just had my review yesterday and the day I started bleeding consultant said is “day 1” she said my normal period this month shouldn’t be too late and pretty much on track which is due next week so we will see. I doubt you will be able to start straight away I may be wrong but consultant said I had to have my August period which I will then ring Care on day 1 and she will draw up my protocol I am going on a short FET protocol and then she will get my meds order all ready to start on my September period. Hope this helps and good luck. Take care of yourself. A few of us ladies have had bad news in the June/July cycle buddies forum - haven’t seen you there and alot of us will be having FETs starting Sept/Oct so I said I would start a Sept/Oct FET group so we are all together again so feel free to keep an eye out and join us if you are having a FET. Check in on our June/July thread as I will be keeping an eye on there for when everyones ready to FET x
