Baby measuring ahead?

Hey all

Is it normal for baby to measure ahead or behind in the early scans / 12 week and 20 week?

Why is this? Any experience of this?

Re: Baby measuring ahead?

Hi,
Remember scans are down to a judgement, it is all about how baby is lying in terms of how accurate the measurements are.

My care scan at 8 weeks showed baby measuring around dates. The lady who scanned me said they don’t really worry too much about measurements really early on and it’s more about what features they see and are they expected.

My 12 week scan put me a couple of days ahead and then 20 week scan had some things ahead somethings more behind. Try not to worry and be guided by what the sonographer says about how it all looks.

In some countries they don’t give a due date, they just give a month with a rough estimate for the variability in scans.

I’ve been told as they get bigger it’s harder to get accurate measurements too as baby can lie in curled up positions.

Hope this helps.

Ah okay. Interesting to note.

So even a CRL measurement can be slightly out give or take a few days?

Re: Baby measuring ahead?

I would say so. Also all babies grow at different rates. We aren’t all the same size are we 😊
When I had a private scan at 6 weeks I was a week behind where I should have been, the nurse at care said she wouldn’t have even given any indication of measurement at that stage as they can be so off. She said she would just give a guide on if it all looks normal.

Main thing is that baby grows and everything looks “normal” 😊
